Diksha Makkar, a PhD research scholar in the Department of Public Administration at Panjab University, Chandigarh, secured All India Rank 1 in the UGC-NET with a 100 percentile score in Public Administration. She achieved this milestone in her fifth attempt after dedicating three years to focused preparation.
A resident of Ambala, Diksha described her journey as challenging but rewarding. She followed a clear strategy, concentrating on weekly and monthly practice sessions along with consistent revision. She advises students to establish a disciplined routine, stay consistent, and remain focused on their goals.
Diksha’s father, Rakesh, runs a business and actively engages in social work, while her mother, Shikha, supports the family business. Her brother, Vineesh, manages a start-up in Bengaluru. Diksha credits her parents, teachers, and friends for their constant encouragement during difficult phases of her preparation.
She also acknowledged the guidance of her research supervisor, Dr. Bharti Garg, and received online coaching from Begi Ram of Himachal Pradesh. Diksha completed her BA (Honours) from PG Government College for Girls and earned her Master’s degree from Panjab University. She is currently pursuing her PhD.
With aspirations to become an IAS officer, Diksha plans to appear for the UPSC examination. She also serves as a member of the District Child Welfare Council.
Apart from academics, Diksha actively pursues Kathak and has taught nearly 1,000 children under the guidance of her guru, Anju Miglani. As a child, she organised a charity dance show with her family and raised around ₹1 lakh to support cancer patients and differently abled children. She believes in balancing passion with studies but strongly emphasises that one should never compromise on education.
