The UT Transport Department will establish a regional driving training centre at Raipur Kalan with support from the Ministry of Highways and Transport. The centre will function as a regional hub to train driving instructors, conduct refresher courses, and assess aspiring drivers through an innovative driving test system. It will also organise road safety awareness camps for school bus drivers and students, investigate road accidents, and recommend measures to prevent mishaps.
The department has begun the process of setting up the Regional Driving Training Centre on four acres of land at Raipur Kalan. It has invited expressions of interest for the establishment and management of the facility, with the submission deadline set for February 27.
The centre will offer structured training programmes for instructors as well as light motor vehicle and heavy motor vehicle drivers.
After completing a month-long training programme at the centre, applicants will no longer need to appear for a separate driving test to obtain a licence. Officials stated that candidates must undergo a 29-hour course spread over four weeks, comprising eight hours of theory and 21 hours of practical training. Applicants must maintain at least 85% attendance to qualify. Upon clearing all theory papers and the motor vehicle inspector’s test, candidates will receive a proficiency test certificate. Authorities will treat this certificate as equivalent to the driving test currently conducted at the Children’s Traffic Park in Sector 23.
Officials added that they are still finalising all related procedures and modalities.
