In 2020, when the world slowed down, Simran Kaur found a new direction. A trained architect based in Panchkula, she stepped away from her job in search of better opportunities. What followed was unexpected — a period of stillness that led her to discover a completely new passion.
That passion would soon evolve into December Dewberry, a growing name in the world of customized desserts.
A Journey That Started at Home
Simran’s interest in desserts had always been there. During her six-month stay in France, she developed a deep appreciation for the detail and elegance of French baking. However, she had never imagined turning that admiration into a craft.
During the lockdown, she began experimenting in the kitchen with her sister. Their first batch of cookies didn’t go as planned, but the encouragement from family made all the difference. What started as a simple activity quickly turned into a serious pursuit.
Learning through Consistency
With no formal training in baking, Simran relied on self-learning. She spent months exploring online resources, practicing techniques, and improving through trial and error.
Each attempt helped her refine her skills. Over time, she built confidence in creating cakes, cupcakes, and desserts that not only looked appealing but also delivered on taste and quality.
Building December Dewberry
As her skills improved, Simran began sharing her creations with friends and family. Their positive feedback encouraged her to take the next step — turning her passion into a business.
In 2020, she launched December Dewberry, focusing on customized and concept-based desserts. Her work reflects a blend of creativity and precision, influenced by her background in architecture.
Challenges along the Way
Starting from scratch came with its own challenges. Establishing an online presence, understanding customer preferences, and building trust required patience and consistency.
Initial orders mostly came through personal connections, but those early experiences played a crucial role in shaping her work. Honest feedback helped her improve both presentation and overall customer experience.
Memorable Creations and Experiences
Over the years, Simran has created desserts for many special occasions. One of her most memorable experiences came from a customer who first placed a small order and later returned with a much bigger one. The same client eventually trusted her to create cakes for an
engagement celebration. Such experiences motivated Simran and strengthened her confidence
in her work.
Simran also enjoys experimenting with creative concepts and flavors. One of her standout
creations was a cheesecake with six different flavors in a single cake. She also designed
concept-based cakes for a fellow architect by blending personal stories with artistic and
architectural elements. Her background in architecture helps her focus on detail, balance, and
presentation.
Another proud moment in her journey came when she received recognition at a state-level
competition for a conceptual cake design. The achievement encouraged her to keep learning
and improving. For Simran, every cake is not just a dessert but a creative experience that adds
joy to people’s celebrations.
