Chandigarh: Recently, there has been a three-day workshop by the PGI Chandigarh on the topic of advanced techniques in surgery, and this was a great opportunity for the doctors and postgraduate students to learn about the new techniques in surgeries.
The Department of ENT & Head and Neck Surgery and the Department of Anatomy at PGI Chandigarh jointly organised the workshop.
Through the workshop, the participants have learned a lot about the modern surgical techniques used in the health care sector.
PGI Surgery Workshop Highlights Robotic Surgery and Live Demonstrations
Robotic surgery was one of the key points that were discussed during the workshop. The specialists pointed out how technology is helping surgeons in conducting complicated surgeries in a more precise manner.
The presentation on the applications of robotic surgery took place on the first day of the workshop. A live demonstration of head and neck surgery was also demonstrated during the session.
This session helped the participants get an idea about how the advancements in technology have been making a difference in some of the surgical operations.

These types of sessions are of extreme importance for the aspiring medical professionals.
Hands-On Training Helps Doctors Develop Surgical Skills
On the second day, participants attended practical training sessions using preserved human tissues. These sessions gave them an opportunity to practise surgical techniques.
Although classroom lectures provided essential theoretical knowledge, practical sessions helped participants develop their surgical skills. Furthermore, hands-on training gave future doctors a clearer understanding of human anatomy. As a result, they learned how to apply their knowledge during surgical procedures.
Furthermore, specialists explained why careful tissue handling matters during surgery. They also highlighted the importance of anatomical knowledge and precision when performing complex procedures.
By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on training, the workshop helps participants strengthen their surgical skills and apply what they learn in real medical situations.
Practical training is an important part of postgraduate education for medical students.
Advanced Surgical Training at PGI: Thyroid, Voice Box and Reconstructive Surgery
In addition to this, the course included several specific surgical operations in the neck region.
The trainees learned about surgical operations concerning the neck, larynx, thyroid, and salivary glands.
These types of surgeries require a deep understanding of the human anatomy as there are many nerves, blood vessels, and organs that play crucial roles in the function of the head and neck regions.
In addition, the workshop introduced participants to reconstructive surgery techniques. These procedures help surgeons repair damaged tissues and restore affected areas after complex operations.
This is surgery where the tissue of the other body part is taken to reconstruct the damaged part.
Moreover, training in robotic and reconstructive surgery helps doctors develop specialised surgical skills
The trainees were able to learn about surgical reconstruction technique through the course.
